Description

Hoofer SCUBA PADI Advanced Open Water (AOW) Certification

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Advanced Open Water Diver course is all about advancing your skills. You'll read instructional materials and go on to practice navigation and buoyancy, try deep diving and make three specialty dives that the group and instructors decide on. For every specialty dive you complete, you can earn credit toward PADI specialty certifications. Here are a few of the many speciality options: Deep, Digital Underwater Imaging, Dive Against Debris, Dry Suit, Enriched Air Nitrox, Fish Identification, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search & rescue, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Navigation, and Wreck Diver.

The AOW rating is considered a prerequisite for many of the other advanced PADI courses and certifications such as Rescue Diver, Divemaster, or other speciality courses. Upon completing the course, you will recieve a lifetime AOW certification and be well prepared to safely make advanced dives.

PREREQUISITES

Course participants must:

1. Be an Open Water Certified Diver

2. Be a Hoofers SCUBA club member. Annual memberships can be purchased when you sign up for this class or at the Outdoor UW desk at Memorial Union.

3. Have recent (past 6-12 months) logged dives. Direct any questions to scuba@hoofers.org.

COURSE FEE

The $235 course fee includes a lifetime PADI AOW certification, all equipement and tanks needed for the class, and all instructional reading materials.

EQUIPMENT

Hoofers SCUBA club and the dive shop will provide all tanks and equipment (wetsuit, regulator, BCD, mask, fins, snorkel, weights, and belts) as part of the class. You are welcome to bring your own equipment if you prefer. Please also bring your dive log book.

DATES/TIMES/LOCATIONS

Orientation: There will be an orientation at the dive shop to get fitted for gear and recieve the reading materials prior to the dives. Date is TBD and you will be notified once you sign up for the class.

Due to unpredictable spring weather, we cannot say for certain where will be able to dive at this time. They will likely be at Lake Wazee which is 2 hours north of Madison. We will let you know and help in coordinating transportation and carpooling if necessary. Below is the estimated timing of the class each day. Please factor in that travel time to another lake outside of Madison could be at least an extra hour each way.
