Kayak Pool Session 4 - Community Members (Non-Hoofers)
Sunday, Dec 4, 2022 (3:00 pm - 5:00 pm)
This is the event where paddlers who are members of the surrounding paddling community but not current Hoofer Members can register for a Hoofers Pool Session.
Sign-up and Payment: Sessions are $15 to cover the cost of the pool rental—we need at least 7-10 registered participants (between Hoofer members and non-members) a week in advance to cover the basic fee for a session, or we might need to cancel the event. You will be prompted to pay online when you sign-up. Otherwise, you may pay with cash/card in the Outdoor UW office, and they will manually add you to the event.
Consent Form: All participants at the event are required to submit a completed Consent Form for the UW Nick beforehand. Please access the form through this link: https://www.connect2mycloud.com/OnlineModules/PublicSurvey/FillOutPublicSurvey?surveyCode=52dce5ad-d527-4c7d-a474-5b84145d6a3e.
Clothing: Bring swimwear, a towel, change of clothes, and nose plugs and goggles if you have them (handy when you are upside down). Avoid cotton clothes to your best ability (warm-when-wet synthetic material is your best bet). Also, full-toe foot protection is advisable as this is what you would wear when you're paddling on rivers/lakes, although it's not mandatory for pool sessions.
Boat Cleaning: To use the UW pool space, all boats and gear must be absolutely clean before arriving at the pool. This means no dirt or debris on either the inside or outside of your boat and gear. If your equipment is not clean, you will not be able to use the pool. To protect our ability to continue using the space in the future, we need to carefully abide by this requirement.
Logistics: Since non-members will need to bring their own boat and gear, please feel free to meet us at Nicholas Recreation Center pool (although if you would like to help carry boats from the Memorial Union for those without vehicles, we would not object!). Participants will briefly park near the Soderholm Family Aquatic Entrance (at the northeast corner of the building) and walk our boats and gear directly to the diving well, before parking the cars in a nearby ramp. The Nick has locker rooms where you can store your stuff and shower (please rinse off before entering the pool). The Hoofers group will likely be split into groups, i.e. “Lake Lesson,” “SK0,” or “Rolling Lesson”. Some more experienced members may practice their skills in the pool on their own. Any swim tests will occur at the beginning of the session. We have the diving well reserved from 3:00-5:00pm, so we will aim to start getting out of the water around 4:45pm. We need to be completely departed from the pool area by 5:00pm.
If you volunteer to drive boats or people but discover you can no longer attend the event, please provide as much advance notice as possible to ensure that we make alternative arrangements.
If you have any questions or concerns at all, email Ryan Holley (firstname.lastname@example.org).
