UPDATE: Date has changed to Sept 29th. I would like to give priority to paddlers seeking the Quietwater leader rating in a canoe, which requires an R1-OC (R1 rating in an open canoe), but can also take kayaks.
Do let me know if you can drive, and especially if you can pull a trailer!! We could use more boat-hauling space.
Lake lesson and standard swim test are required before this trip. This is an introduction to paddling on moving water and a change to earn the R1 rating. We will paddle Badfish Creek, a scenic little stream south of Madison.
Here's a brief description of the skills we will practice: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MHcPVknxweXlAot_40ZBr3tez7v33QnN3-ygPyaHtks/edit?usp=sharing
Please bring:
- A change of clothing, including an extra pair of shoes for the ride home
- A towel
- 2 Plastic bags for your wet gear
- Shoes that you can get wet and can wear in the boat
- A warm-when wet base layer of clothing (non-cotton)
- A polar fleece jacket
- Wool socks for the chilly weather
- Wetsuit if you have one- otherwise be sure to grab a club wetsuit
Meet at 1:30 pm in the Memorial Union boathouse to gather gear. We will drive to Old Stage Road, and paddle at least to Cooksville, possibly as far as Riley Rd.
