The spookiest thing about Halloween is not ghosts or monsters.... It's INVASIVE SPECIES (ahhhhhh). But do not fret because you have the chance to be a plant buster. Come join us at the Lakeshore Nature Preserve as we work to remove invasive plants and maintain the beauty of the preserve. Get fresh air, meet new people, and enjoy the last of the fall colors!
When:
- Friday November 1st from 1-3pm
- Please arrive 5-10 minutes early so we can get to know each other!
What we’ll be doing:
- We will be working to remove invasive plants to help restore the native plant communities in the Lakeshore Nature Preserve.
- Work will take place off trail on uneven ground.
Where to meet:
- Meet at the informational kiosk at the entrance to Picnic Point. (Don't walk all the way to the point)
- This is on the Lakeshore Path and free 80 bus route. There is bike parking as well as a Bcycle station. UW parking lot 130 (2003 University Bay Drive) is across the road from the entrance.
What to wear/bring:
- Volunteers should dress in clothes that are ok to get a little dirty.
- Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required.
- Work takes place outdoors, please dress for the weather. Layers work well.
- Work gloves and tools will be provided.
- Please bring at least 1L of drinking water.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, concers, or fun plant facts at conservation@hooferouting.org!
