Event Information

Description

I'll be leading an intermediate mountain biking trip to Quarry Ridge. We'll be leaving from the union, riding to Quarry Ridge (about 6 miles away mostly on bike paths), doing some laps, and then biking back to the union. Expect to ride about 17 miles on this trip. This trip offers a chance to earn your MTB2 (intermediate, required for overnight trips), but that rating is not guaranteed. I can provide more information on this you have questions.

I'll be providing instruction on skill technique. You must come with prior knowledge of mountain biking. An MTB1 rating is required. This means you already feel comfortable doing an ABCDE (safety) check on your bike and can ride beginner trails without stopping. If you feel you are an intermediate rider or above, but you do not yet have your MTB1 rating with the club, email the biking chair (biking@hooferouting.org) asap. Fast-tracking is never guaranteed, and it is only granted under very rare circumstances.

Hoofers has mountain bikes and helmets that you can borrow if you do not have your own. If you have your own, email me (knych@wisc.edu) before the trip.

What to wear:

Closed-toed shoes are required. If you have vans those tend to be good, otherwise any other athletic tennis shoes will do. Wear athletic clothing that you are comfortable biking in and that suits the weather. Make sure you have clothes to be outdoors the whole time.

You must bring water and snacks for yourself. If you would like advice on this, let me know. Please arrive fueled/hydrated.

If you sign up for this trip, please show up. If you find out last minute you cannot attend, remove yourself from sign-up so someone on the waitlist has a chance to ride. If you are on the waitlist, you cannot attend the trip unless someone else removes themselves from the participant list.

Meet at the boathouse (next to Mendota lodge --- where the club holds meetings) at the time indicated in the description.
