Event Information: This is a one half hour on-land lesson focusing on Spinnaker usage.
You can read the Ranger rigging checklist before the lesson if you'd like, but it is not required.
The Topaz Ranger lesson progression is as follows:
- Topaz Ranger Rigging Lesson: you will learn rigging and degrigging the boat
- Watch these videos at home before you sign up for a regular lesson:
- Topaz Ranger Lesson: you will learn to sail the boat and will have the opportunity to earn a rating.
Location: This lesson will meet under the yellow canopy next to the lake lab. If you are unable to find your instructor, or if there is inclement weather, please check in with the Outdoor UW Office.
Prerequisites: Advanced Dinghy Classroom and 420, Laser, or Byte Light Rating. You should have practiced sailing dinghies and feel comfortable with the advanced boats before taking this class.

- If this event is cancelled more than 24 hours in advance, participants will be notified via the email associated with their membership account. If the event needs to be cancelled within 24 hours of the event start time, the instructor will call each participant individually via the phone number associated with their membership account. We ask that students remove themselves from a lesson as soon as they know they will be unable to attend; lessons dropped within 24 hours of the lesson's start time will be considered a Late Drop. If you no-show for a lesson without informing the instructor, they may temporarily suspend your lesson sign-up privileges.
- Equipment/ Gear Required by Participant
- This event will occur either partly or primarily on the water. Participants should wear attire they can move easily in and are comfortable getting wet. Close-toed shoes are required on all Hoofer craft. Lifejackets will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Use of sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle are strongly encouraged.
