Finally, the time has arrived!!! I hope everyone has been practicing their kayaking skills, because now it's time to LEVEL UPPP! Let's learn how to paddle in some waves and enter a swamped kayak...by yourself (dun dun dunnn). This time also allows you to practice your SKO and SK1 skills with other participants and with fast access to feedback and answers to any questions you may have.
ELIGIBILITY:
Participants do need an SKO rating
Participants need to be current members of the Hoofer Outing Club.
WHAT TO BRING:
- You must wear shoes that have a sole and will not fall off in the water. There are Zebra Mussels in the lake, and their shells are very sharp.
- Wear clothing that can get wet (we will be practicing wet exits)
- Bring a glasses strap if you wear glasses
- Bring a full change of clothing, including dry shoes, and a towel. There are showers inside of the Union building.
- Sunscreen and a water bottle. It will hopefully be a bright and sunny day (I am manifesting)
WHERE TO MEET / EXTRA INFO:
Please meet at the outer entrance to the Outdoor UW boathouse on the lower level of Memorial Union. It's a large garage door facing the lake, where the canoes and kayaks are kept.
Additionally, if you do not have your swim test completed, let's do that at this lesson if you have time (standard: 100-yard swim and 5 min treading water OR provisional: 50 yards wearing PFD). Let me know if you need one by emailing seakayaking@hooferouting.org!
