Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore backpacking! (life-changing event without the seasickness)

Come explore America's most colorful shoreline with HOC! Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is a relic of the ancestors of the Great Lakes, and is famous for its beautiful fall colors and colorful mineral-stained rocks. Over hundreds of millions of years, its rich waterfalls have carved out sea caves and sculpted towering sandstone bluffs painted with vibrant mineral deposits. 

Once you've signed up for the trip, we'll schedule a pre-trip meeting the week before the trip to discuss important logistics. You MUST attend the pre-trip meeting to go on the trip.

We'll be hiking a portion of the North Country Trail, a National Scenic Trail which extends over twice as long as the Appalachian Trail. Here's our agenda:

Friday, September 27:

• Meet in Mendota Lodge in Memorial Union at 12:00 pm to pick up supplies
• Drive to Hiawatha National Forest and camp overnight

Saturday, September 28:

• Drive the rest of the way to Pictured Rocks
• Hike in 13 miles to our campsite by Beaver Lake
• Set up camp and stargaze

Sunday, September 29:

• Hike back 9.5 mile to the car and return to Madison
• Get dinner and pat each other on the back

The cost of this trip is around $85 per person. We will post a separate announcement for payment after registration has filled. If you have a car and are willing to drive, please let us know, as this may reduce the cost of the trip.
