COURSE OVERVIEW
The PADI Rescue Diver certification course consists of:
5 classroom sessions devoted to developing an understanding of the signs and symptoms other divers exhibit during stressful or emergency situations, diving related injuries and treatments, and methods of avoiding potentially dangerous situations. The second part of the class is Medic First Aid training, where participants will learn and practice CPR and basic first aid skills.
2 swimming pool sessions where you are able to apply your new knowledge in a controlled environment, and
2 days of open water dives where you will put your training to the test under the supervision of the instructor and other expert divers.PREREQUISITES
Course participants must:
Be certified Advanced Open Water Divers
Be a Hoofers SCUBA club member. Membership is $35 a year and can be purchased in the Hoofers Office prior to or when you sign up for class.
Be a UW-Madison student, staff, or Union member. Wisconsin Union membership is open to everyone. Call 608-262-2263 or visit www.union.wisc.edu/membership to sign up.
Have recent (past 6-12 months) logged dives. Direct any questions to education@hooferscuba.org, especially inquiries about taking a Refresher Course with the club if required.COURSE FEE
The $275 (plus $30 due at the lake dive) course fee includes a lifetime PADI Rescue Diver certification, all equipment and tanks needed (see EQUIPMENT below), two year First Aid / CPR certification, academic instructional material, including textbooks and dive tables that participants keep for later reference. Participants who can furnish proof of current first aid certification can reduce the course price by $42.
Signing up here online, you will need to buy the $48 membership, then pay $475 to sign up. You will receive a code for the eLearning from the orientation.
Course Refunds
Once the course has commenced, we do not offer any refunds past the first pool session, e.g. if you decide you can't make one of the dates. If you decide after the first pool session that SCUBA is not for you, then we can off you a partial refund of the course cost less the cost of materials, and a prorate fee for the portion of the class that you attended.

For safety, individuals not able to satisfactorily perform all required skills in the pool will not be permitted to participate in the open water training. Our instructors will make every effort to assist you in becoming a certified diver, but certification is not guaranteed.
Participants must be a University of Wisconsin-Madison student, faculty/staff, or Wisconsin Union Member. Union membership is open to everyone. Call 608-262-2262 or visit www.union.wisc.edu/membership to sign up for Union Membership. Current students are automatically given free Union Memberships.
Last day to sign up for the certification course is 9/14/24 (Sat).
eLearning: After purchasing the course, you will recieve a link to the PADI Online learning. This must be completed the online learning BEFORE the pool dates.
