Description

Join us as we canoe some class II/III whitewater on the St Louis River in Minnesota! This section has mostly class II and III, with one class IV section that we will portage around.

The cost for the trip will be roughly 50 $ for gas and food for the weekend. Venmo will be used to reimburse for gas and food.

ITINERARY:

 

Friday:

2:00pm Meet at Memorial Union to gather gear

Drive ~6 hours to Buffalo Valley Campground in Minnesota, stop for dinner on the way

 

Saturday:

8:00am Breakfast in camp

9:30am Gear up, drive to river 

10:00am Safety talk and get on the river!

Lunch 

4:00pm Get off the river

5:00pm Return to campsite

6:00pm Cook dinner, campfire, hang out until bed!

 

Sunday:

Breakfast in camp

10:00am Run the river again

2:00pm Pack up and return to Madison!

The St Louis has been flooding recently- the trip will go out as planned provided water levels go down. 


 

PACKING LIST: 

  • Waterbottle 

  • Clothing that will protect you from the sun and can get wet. 

  • Shoes that can get wet and securely fasten around the heel (won't come off in the water). 

  • Glasses strap if applicable

  • A towel

  • Change of dry clothing, including dry shoes

  • Lunch food and snacks for Saturday 

  • Money for meals and snacks on the drive up

  • Whitewater canoeing equipment (can be borrowed from Hoofers): boat, paddle, PFD, helmet, float bags, dry bags

  • Tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad 

  • A light source, such as a headlamp 

  • Personal set of dishes for meals (bowl and a spoon at minimum, add a fork and cup, maybe plate, if you want)
