Introduction to Self Rescue

This clinic will provide an introduction to self-rescue. Here, you will build a foundation of problem-solving skills specific to the high-risk terrain we navigate as climbers. Topics include belay transfers, rope ascension, emergency rappels, managing incapacitated climbers, etc. You'll want a solid foundation in outdoor climbing. Sport and Anchors I are required ratings, however Anchors II is highly recommended. We will begin our clinic at the CCC parking lot at 8 am and finish around 4 pm. You can expect to be back in Madison around 5:00 pm.
Items to bring:

2L of water, lunch and snacks

Sturdy closed-toed hiking shoes, appropriate weather protection

Helmet, harness, climbing shoes, belay devices (preferably Grigri and an ATC with guide mode)

4 locking carabiners, a prussik loop, two 120 cm slings
Much of this gear can be rented from HMC, email a gear manager (gearmanager@hoofermountaineering.org) to reserve
Transportation:

We will carpool. Email me education@hoofermountaineering.org if you can provide transportation.
- Meet at Memorial Union Circle (parking circle between Memorial Union and Helen C. White hall) at 7 AM to carpool, otherwise you can meet at the CCC parking lot at 8 am.
