Description

Join Hoofer Mountaineering Club for a day of ice-climbing fun at Winona Ice Park! Winona Ice Park is the country's second largest ice park found at the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota, with beautiful views of the Mississippi river from the top of the quarry. No ice climbing experience needed! Participants new to ice climbing will learn the basics: how to put on crampons, how to swing and ice tool, good ice climbing stances, etc.

Itinerary

  • 7 am, leave campus in two fleet vans
  • 9:30 – 10 am, arrive, parking lot talk, approach, setting team does anchors
  • 10 am – 3 pm climb
  • 3 – 4 pm, pack up, tear down anchors, group dinner (either sit-down restaurant in downtown LaCrosse, or something quick like Culver's depending on time)
  • 7 pm, back to campus

Cost:

  • $20 gear (we will subsidize Winona ice rental gear with our gear locker)
  • $20 transportation

Food:

Breakfast and lunch: packed and on your own

Dinner: Group activity on the way back to Madison!

Items to bring:

  • Warm, water-resilient, layers
  • At least 2L of water
