Description

Sign up for the Inaugural Hoofers Outing Club Fly Fishing Trip!

This will be a weekend of fly fishing in the Driftless Area in southwestern Wisconsin while staying at a campground for two nights. The hope is to use this trip to map out the future of fly fishing in the Hoofers Outing Club. Whether it is a weekend trip or backcountry fishing, fly fishing is an amazing part of the outdoors that we are currently missing out on! Participants will not only enjoy the highs and lows of the river, but also work together to construct a plan for future fly fishing Hoofers trips.

***WARNING***

This trip is tailored towards participants who have prior fly fishing experience. If you don't have any experience, I would adivse you to wait to sign up for one of the future trips specifically for beignners.

Schedule:

We will be driving to the city of Viroqua, WI and camping at Sidie Hollow Campground. After a visit to the local fly shop, the Driftless Angler, we will spend most of the weekend on the surrounding streams. The current plan is to leave Madison before 2:30pm on Friday the 7th, as it is a two hour drive to the Driftless Angler, and they close at 5:00pm. Then coming back, we would leave Viroqua by 6:00pm at the latest. These times are subject to discussion if they do not fit with participant's schedules.

Gear:

The Outing Club can provide the following gear: tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, stoves, water filtration tools, and other backpacking related gear. If you have your own, feel free to bring whatever you would like.

The Outing Club can NOT provide the following gear: fly rod and reel, flies, line, eyewear, etc. While fly fishing is the emphasis of this trip, spin reel fishing poles are also welcome. If you are unable to bring any of the fly fishing specific gear, do not let the keep you from signing up. We can look into renting gear if the need arises, or ultimately we can share gear.

Costs:

The split cost for food and camping permits will be $22.00 per person. Fishing licenses must be purchased by each participant individually. Prices for those will vary depending on Wisconsin residency and length of the desired fishing period. DO NOT BUY a license before our pre-trip meeting.
