Event Information

Description

Robert Shebilske and I will lead a sea kayaking trip on the beautiful spring-fed waters of the Waupaca Chain of Lakes. This paddle is notable for its crystal clear water and scenic shorelines.  There are about 21 small connected lakes, and we will paddle around 10 or so. All but 4 are no-wake areas that are great for paddling.

Trip plan: Meet at the boathouse / Park Street circle promptly at 7:30am so that we can load boats and gear. We should arrive at Knight Lane Landing (N2417 Knight Ln, Waupaca, WI 54981) by 10am, and hit the water around 10:30am. We will paddle at a slow pace so we can take in all the beauty for about 2 hours, break for lunch, and then paddle again for another 2-3 hours.  This is a very easy and relaxed trip.  Please bring a lunch or money to buy one near our lunch take-out (there is a restaurant just up the road from our usual lunch spot).  We will return to Madison and put the boats and gear back in the boathouse.

If you can drive and carry boats or people, please let me know at rjholley@wisc.edu (this may allow us to open the event to more club members).  If the event is full please sign up on the waiting list; cancellations often occur, and waiting list members will be added to any open slots.

Gear: Bring extra clothes in case you get wet (you may want to swim or roll), and at least 1 liter of water. Wear warm-when-wet synthetic layers on the water (not cotton).  Bring paddling boots or shoes you can get wet (I recommend that they be close-toed). A hat and sunglasses (and sunscreen) will be your friends. Each person will need a kayak, paddle, sprayskirt, and PFD which the club can provide, and we will take pumps, a tow rope, and first aid kit as well.
