Description

Join Hoofers Adapt & Hoofer Ambassadors on Zoom for a panel on & discussion about accessibility outside! December 3rd, 4-5:30 pm

This will be the second installment of Hoofer Ambassadors' DIY DEI Nights, where we focus on one DEI-related topic, learn about it, and discuss! Our topic this time will be outdoor accessibility. This event will feature a panel of people who have personal experience with adaptive outdoor activities. There will be time for Q&A from attendees after the main portion of the panel. After the Q&A, there will be a discussion with the participants about what we've learned, what surprised us, and how we can take the learning from the event and use it in our own lives. You need not stay for the discussion if you do not want to, it will take place in the last 30-45 minutes. No background knowledge is required!

We recommend you watch, read, or listen to at least one of the following prior to the panel and discussion, but it is not required.

1. Crip Camp (documentary, Netflix)

2. Redefining Limitations: Disabled Athletes Are Adaptive, Resilient, and Still Locked Out (article, BitchMedia)

3. Hiking Wheelchair Opens Up Outdoor Lifestyle To People With Disabilities (article, NPR)

4. Disabled Hikers with Syren Nagakyrie (Unlikely Hikers podcast, Spotify, Apple Podcasts)

5. Accessibility Review/Trail Guide of Blue Mounds State Park in Wisconsin, on Syren Nagakyrie's website

6. Unlocking Nature: Outdoor Accessibility and Activities for the Mobility Challenged (post, Movement Advisor)

7. Vasu Sojitra on Finding Normality in our Differences (Breaking Trail podcast, Spotify, Apple Podcasts)

This event is open to everyone - you do not need to be a Hoofer member to participate, so please invite friends!

If you have any questions, please reach out to ambassadors@hoofers.org.
