Description

Knitting like the Outdoors is where I go to disconnect, remove myself from to do lists and everyday worries. It’s calming and meditative and keeps my hands busy.

Its getting cold outside. The canoes are soon to be stowed for the winter. Come learn something new and get started on a scarf for the chilly outdoors.

We’ll meet in Memorial Union at 1pm. The union events staff will assign us the room the week before the event. I’ll send out an update email of the location and the room will also be listed on the Today in the union board.

The Madison Knitting Guild is providing us with worsted weight yarn and a discount on the needles. So the only fee is $3.00 for the needles. The Madison knitting Guild is also supplying some volunteers to help me so we will have a nice student to teacher ratio. As I know the number of volunteers available from the Guild we can open up the lesson to more people. Also if you already know how to knit let me know if you would like to help

In this lesson we will learn how to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off. I’ll have samples and instructions on how to make 3-4 patterns using these two stitches. We’ll get you going on your first scarf.

We’ll also talk briefly about different weights of yarn and resources available to knitters.

I just googled Knitting and the outdoors and found a cool blog on knitting and camping!!!
