Participants: Please meet outside the Outdoor UW Office at the Memorial Union at 5:45 pm to partake in this lesson! Please arrive early if you are able!
What to bring: swimwear/clothes you don't mind swimming in, water shoes, sunscreen, a water bottle, and a dry change of clothes for after your lesson in case you end up getting wet!
In this lesson, we will review the SK0 lesson skills of how to move your kayak forwards, backwards, sideways (draw strokes), and how to turn (sweep strokes). You'll also get the chance to refresh your wet exit, edging, bracing and T-rescue (assisted rescue) skills.
We will then cover the paddle-float rescue, and completing this self-rescue technique will allow you to earn your SK1 Rating This will give you the opportunity to paddle a sea kayak out on Lake Mendota or go on other sea kayak trips!
