Big Bend Backpacking: Leader Training Trip

Are you looking to become an Outing leader? Join us on this leadership training trip in Texas' magnificent Big Bend National Park!

This trip will be a welcomed challenge, both physically and mentally. There will be higher milage, technical terrain, elevation gain/loss, and extra planning with water and heat. We encourage you to look up Big Bend National Park prior to applying just to get a feel for the deserty conditions and terrain. We can't wait to tackle this trip with you! 

Participant Expectations:

- Effectively lead and co-lead on certain days of trip

- Be prepared to teach backcountry/leadership topics to other group members (will be mentored through this process)

- Must have previously-developed backpacking technical skills & be able to demonstrate backcountry knowledge. This trip will be heaviliy focusing on leadsership development and facilitation skills. We are requireing a base rating of BP3.

- Must have fleet certification/have ability to become fleet certified

Upon successful completion of this trip, there is the potential to be given a Backpacking Leader 4 Rating. This will give you more opportunities to lead and participate in difficult trips in the future!

Cost: $270 - This will cover all backcountry meals, travel expenses, as well as permits. Please bring cash for personal snacks/souvenirs/emergencies/meals on the way down and back up.
