Event Information

Description

Carl Zimm and I are co-organizing a beginner-friendly whitewater (R1 or R1-oc rating required) and frontcountry camping trip to the Bois Brule River ( http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/2280/ ) over the 3-day weekend between June 30 and July 3 (keeping open the option to paddle another beginner river on July 4th). Participants will refine their paddling skills on up to class II whitewater while enjoying a scenic float and riverfront camping in the Brule River State Forest ( http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/stateforests/bruleriver/ ). Loading of camping and boating gear in/on cars will take place at 5:00PM at Park St. Circle on June 30, 2017. We will camp in the same location on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, and paddle a different section of the Bois Brule River each day, ending in Lake Superior on July 3.  This trip will provide an opportunity for earning an R2 rating (kayak) or equivalent, as well as provide introductory tent camping experience in a frontcountry setting. You will need to supply your own warm-when-wet clothing for the river and in camp, boating shoes, sleeping bag/pad, and lightweight jacket, as well as recommended items such as sunscreen, bug dope, and a hat. The cost per person will be approximately $50 (to be collected before the trip), which covers the cost of food in camp/on the river, and fuel reimbursement for drivers.
