Event Information

Description

Students taking this course must be between the ages of 10-18. This class focuses on learning the basics of sailing in a fun, positive and safety-conscious environment. Geared toward the total beginner, this class introduces students to identifying wind direction, rigging and launching, sailing a straight course, tacking and jibing and recovery from capsize. In addition, students learn knots, boat parts and basic sail trim. The Badger Tech and the Badger Sloop are the main boats used for this class. The goal is for students to feel comfortable sailing solo and advance their skills enough to move on to Sailing 2.

There are no classes on the Fourth of July. Classes that occur during the week of the Fourth of July will receive a 13% discount.

Session Fees: Parent is a UW student or Union member: $230
