Description

Note of 10/17/16: Sign up is closed.........

Note added 10/9/16:

Gear List:

SLEEPING BAG! The club does not have these. You must provide your own. If you don't have one, we will try to find one you can borrow.

Sleeping pad and Tent. If you need to use club gear, SEND ME AN E-MAIL TELLING ME. I know some of you do from our canversations, but now is the time to tell me in writing.

Toiletries, towel and other personal goods. There is usually a place to shower at the end of the day.

You do not need anything related to dining. They will provide your meals and everything you need to

eat.

Clothing: Dress in layers for working. It may be cool when we get up, but you will warm up as you go

through the day. DO NOT WEAR your good outdoor gear - you will damage it. Wear old jeans or khakis,

flannel shirts over tee-shirts and an old sweater or jacket. Bring something along in case it rains, although

we do not build trail if it rains - mud and trailbuilding is a waste of time and detrimental to the trail. Plan to

wear the same clothes both workdays.

Have the clothes you wear in the car on the way up as your clothes to wear after working, when you hang

out around the fire. Bring a jacket as people tend to fell cold after a day in the out-of-doors.

Sturdy shoes. You will be happier if you wear boots or leather shoes rather than running or other lightweight

shoes.

Drivers will likely leave Madison at different times on Friday. I won't know which car youi will ride in until I see the final list as to

when people can go. Once I have that info, I will assign passengers to drivers.

Note of 10/5/16: The original event at Storr's Lake has been replaced by two Mobile Skills Crew Events. Hoofers will go to the one at Merrimac, which is the trail segment just south of Devil's Lake. This will only be about 40 minutes from Madison. If you previously registered for the food and camping with the Ice Age Trail Alliance at Storr's Lake, you need to re-register now for Merrimac. The new link is embedded in the updated trip announcement below. Registration will close 10/13/16, so get registered as soon as you can.   Connie

We'll go to Merrimac (about a 40 minute drive from Madison) to join others and build Ice Age Trail just south of Devil's Lake.

Cars will leave Madison at various times Friday. We''ll camp Friday and Saturday nights at the basecamp, build trail Saturday and Sunday morning, and return to Madison Sunday around 1 (or a little earlier).

The Ice Age Trail Alliance provides free camping and great meals for trailbuilders. To let them know what you will need, follow the link on this webpage (if you have been to trailbuilding event before) and answer the usual questions:

https://iceagetrail.z2systems.com/np/clients/iceagetrail/eventRegistration.jsp?event=162&

If this is your first time building trail, please talk to me (by attending one of this trip's organizational meeting, to be held Oct 2 and October 4th, see listings on the calendar for details and sign up) BEFORE signing up for food and camping.

While camping and food are provided by the Alliance, Hoofers Outing Club will organize tents and car rides. If you need a car ride, sign up on the website (drivers are signed up separately). Eventually I will ask you to fill out a spreadsheet to give me all the info I need to organize this trip.

You will need to provide your own clothing and sleeping bag for this trip, but we'll have tents and sleeping pads for you to use.
