Prerequisite: Sailing Club Ground School, Intro to Sailing, & INTRO TO KEELBOAT SAILING, or Badger Sloop Light Rating.
Suggested reading is U.S. Sailing Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, available in the Outdoor Programs Office.
Amanda Lynn is a Hunter 27 and the Club's most recent addition. Lessons on Amanda Lynn will focus on various sailing and cruising skills such as boat handling, sail trim, operating under engine power, boat systems (diesel, electrical and water), anatomy of a sailboat and her rigging, basic knots, Aids to Navigation, Rules of the Road, pier and mooring pin landings under both sail and motor, anchoring techniques, tying at the pier, proper use of spring lines, use of winches, and general seamanship. Lessons will be taught on Amanda Lynn with an emphasis on STEWARDSHIP and proper care and maintenance of a well equipped cruising keelboat. (You will be taught how, and expected to leave the boat IN BETTER SHAPE THAN YOU FOUND IT, after each lesson).The lesson will meet by the Memorial Union Boathouse. Lessons proceed in all weather except thunderstorms. Please dress appropriately for the conditions of the day. - Event Type
